Writtle College

Essex Schools Food and Farming Day

THURSDAY, 27th MAY 2010

THE EVENT

Due to the penomenal success of the previous two events and through the continued generous support of Essex County Council, Writtle College, and the Essex Agricultural Society we are pleased to be able to stage the event this year for the third time on Thursday, 27th May 2010.

The aim of the day is to give children a better understanding of where their food comes from and why the Essex countryside looks the way it does.  This is achieved through a range of interactive activities and demonstrations.  The event takes the form of a trail round five Zones, each of which encompasses a key element of the food and farming story.  School groups will be assigned their very own “Farmer Steward” to guide them around the event and ensure that they gain maximum benefit from each exhibit.

This is an outdoor event, although we will provide as much outdoor cover as possible in the case of bad weather. Please make sure that children are dressed appropriately (Wellington boots are advised).  All visitors are expected to bring their own packed lunch.
